Marketer Personas
My team was tasked by our client, the organizers of a major industry conference, to identify customer segments based on past conference attendees. After conducting a market analysis, interviews with past attendees, and synthesizing our research, my team and I developed 4 distinct personas or "archetypes" that would help guide marketing and brand strategy for future events. The following content details each archetype based on communication preferences and personal interaction styles, and how we developed those personas.
The Persona matrix
This persona matrix is based on 2 variables: the x-axis measures how an attendee values relationships and connection, while the y-axis measures his/her perceptions and attitudes towards information. Each quadrant houses a different customer segment who communicates information and values connection differently. Each segment plays a unique role within his/her enterprise, and navigates the workplace waters differently. When it comes to information, attendees at one end of the spectrum typically preferred high-level data and took a "big picture" view, while attendees at the opposite end preferred as much detail as possible. When connection was examined, attendees were segmented based on their focus on actions versus personal connection.
A more in-depth examination of each segment, The Beacon, The Link, The Legend, and The Atlas, can be found below.

I am a connector of people. I thrive off of relationships and interactions with others. My favorite part of any conference I attend is the networking sessions. I love to hear people’s stories and share my own. I’ve had some pretty amazing opportunities come out of a connection I made through my network. You could say that I am a matchmaker of business needs. When I work on a project, I usually act as the coordinator between different parties, if issues arise, people come to me to help mediate. Details aren’t always important to me; I’d rather see the big picture.

I am a provider of information. I need to know the facts, because people depend on me. My job is to share my knowledge with others, so they can do their own jobs. My peers know that I’m always eager to provide guidance, and I am often called upon as a subject matter expert. For me, it’s less about reaching goals and more about empowering people to reach their own. I’ve always enjoyed helping others so sharing my knowledge at work is a great way for me apply that passion.
Legend
I always say “Work Smarter, Not Harder”. I consider myself to be extremely efficient in all aspects of life. Some might say I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I like to check items off lists daily; it’s how I stay organized. I am goal- oriented and driven to accomplish the things I need to do. I take problems and deliver solutions. I’ve gained a reputation as a problem-solver at my company and people often come to me for help. I learn new things so I can excel at my job. Getting good results matters to me.

I love to learn! I am a sponge when it comes to new information. Absorbing as much information as I can around a topic is the best way I know how to do my job. I believe that understanding the details behind why and how things work is essential to being successful. My coworkers consider me a bookworm. I interact with others when I need to further my knowledge. I have an open door policy with my collegues and always keep up to date on the latest industry trends.
